Function and Waveform Generators

Function generators (FGs) are versatile waveform sources that generate a triangle-wave using switched current sources and capacitors. Their peaks are detected and used to control switching. A sine-shaper circuit converts triangle-waves to sine-waves. Three basic waveforms are output: triangle, sine, and square.

Waveform generators (WGs) are digitally-generated sources of waveforms. FGs are analog WGs. WGs use microcomputer or other digital circuitry to synthesize waveforms of various waveshapes. Waveform parameters can be set over the instrument range: frequency, duty ratio, amplitude, and offset.
